🃏Success Story: Lynette Chan — A Vancouver Mom Who Won $500,000

Lynette Chan is an ordinary woman from Canada — a mother of three and a former accountant. Her poker journey began with casual home games among friends. She never saw herself as a pro, just someone who fell in love with the game and studied strategy in her free time, balancing her passion with family life.

🎓 No expensive coaches — just YouTube videos. No long sessions — just a quick game before bed. But her persistence paid off.

In 2022, Lynette decided to attend a live tournament in Las Vegas — just to “see what it’s like.” And… she made it to the final table of one of the biggest women’s events at the WSOP, winning $500,000. It was her first live tournament ever!

She became a real inspiration for everyone afraid to start. After her win, Lynette said:

“If you think poker isn’t for you because you don’t have time or you’re not a pro — you’re wrong. Passion is what matters most.”

Today, Lynette doesn’t play often, but when she does, she enjoys every hand — and continues to share her story with other women, proving: poker has no limits — not by age, profession, or experience.

How War Changed Poker

During the American Civil War (1861–1865), poker underwent key transformations and became much closer to the version we know today.
Soldiers from both sides — Union and Confederate — looked for ways to pass the time. Poker quickly became one of the most popular games in army camps. It spread rapidly among troops, and because players had different habits and styles, new variations began to emerge.

🃏What variations appeared:

Draw Poker
Players were dealt 5 cards and could replace (draw) some of them after the first betting round.
That’s where the name comes from — “draw” means “to pull.”
This mechanic introduced more tactics and bluffing opportunities.

Stud Poker
Players received some cards face up and others face down.
The name comes from the slang word “stud” — meaning a strong guy, hinting at a strong hand.
It became popular because spectators could follow the action by seeing part of the cards.

Straight
The rule appeared that five sequential cards form a strong hand.
This added new strategic depth, especially for draw poker.

Flush
Five cards of the same suit started to count as a combination.
Previously, suits didn’t matter — but flushes added visual appeal and a new way to win even without pairs.

Poker became a reflection of the times — adapting, bluffing, and winning even with imperfect cards.

IT’S OMAHA WEEK AT TON POKER! Join the action now 🃏

Let’s break down the key differences between Omaha and Texas Hold’em:

🟠Number of Hole Cards
— In Texas Hold’em, each player gets 2 hole cards.
— In Omaha PLO5 – you get 5 hole cards (and in PLO6, you get 6, respectively).

🟠Hand Construction
— In Hold’em, you can use any 5 cards out of the 7 available (2 hole cards + 5 community).
— In Omaha, you must use exactly 2 hole cards + 3 from the board.

🟠Action & Dynamics
— Omaha is way more dynamic — with 4+ hole cards, there are more combo possibilities. You’ll hit strong hands more often… but so will your opponents!
— Hold’em is considered more strategic, as hand ranges are easier to read and control.
